The Story

Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality entered the post-COVID era with compounding socio-economic
challenges: high unemployment, entrenched poverty, and an economy struggling to diversify beyond
mining. Ntiyiso Industrialisation Consulting was commissioned to develop a comprehensive,
implementable Local Economic Development Strategy, aligned with national, provincial, and district
development frameworks, that could drive real recovery.

What We Did

Conducted comprehensive economic sector analysis identifying growth accelerators, particularly agriculture and SMMEs, and structural constraints including skills gaps and infrastructure deficits

Engaged local stakeholders through public participation processes to ensure community buy-in and grassroots alignment

Prioritised catalytic initiatives including farming support, youth development, and SMME programmes for immediate implementation

Designed sector-specific interventions including farming incentives, SMME support structures, and energy reliability programmes

Drove governance improvements to accelerate project approvals and embed LED-focused policies
