Key Account Agent

The Key Account Agent is responsible for managing and recovering outstanding debt across high-value municipal accounts, including property rates and utility services.
This role involves field engagement, customer interaction, and negotiation of payment arrangements to support revenue recovery and improve collection performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field visits to engage customers with overdue municipal accounts
- Verify account information and communicate payment options
- Manage a portfolio of high-value debtor accounts
- Monitor payment behaviour and implement recovery strategies
- Negotiate sustainable payment arrangements with customers
- Handle disputes, objections, and escalations professionally
- Capture and maintain accurate customer and account data
- Prepare reports on collection performance and trends
- Ensure compliance with municipal bylaws and credit control policies
- Collaborate with internal teams to optimise revenue recovery
Qualifications & Experience
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Business Management, or related field
- 2–3 years’ experience in debt collection, revenue management, or account management
- Experience in customer engagement and payment negotiation
- Exposure to municipal accounts (rates or utilities) is advantageous
- Registration with a debt collection council is advantageous

This role manages Key Account Agents and Field Technicians, ensuring effective revenue recovery, compliance with municipal policies, and improved client cash flow performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate daily field operations and team activities
- Develop and implement timelines to achieve collection targets
- Conduct performance management and quarterly reviews
- Oversee delivery of notices, disconnections, and reconnections
- Supervise scheduling and routing of field activities
- Ensure compliance with municipal credit control policies
- Support Key Account Agents in managing high-value debtor accounts
- Resolve escalated customer queries and account issues
- Monitor operational performance and implement improvements
- Prepare and present performance and operational reports
Qualifications & Experience
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Business Management, or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in debt collection, customer service, or call centre operations
- Alternatively, 5 years’ experience in meter reading or credit control enforcement in a municipal environment
- Experience managing teams in a field operations environment is advantageous
